When to Plant

Zones 3–7: Plant in fall and allow plants to establish before winter. Delphiniums are very cold hardy and can overwinter outdoors in these zones. A layer of mulch around the crown can help protect young plants through winter.

Zones 8+: Fall planting is ideal. Plants establish during the cooler months and produce strong spring blooms. Delphiniums prefer cool temperatures and may struggle once summer heat arrives.
