When to Plant

Snapdragons are cool-season flowers that thrive in cooler temperatures and are excellent candidates for fall planting and overwintering.

Zones 7+: Plant in fall, ideally about 6 weeks before your first frost, allowing plants time to establish before winter. Snapdragons can generally overwinter outdoors in these zones without additional winter protection.

Zones 6 and below: Fall planting is still possible, but plants may need winter protection such as frost cloth, low tunnels, a hoop house, or an unheated greenhouse during colder weather.

These recommendations are intended as a growing guide; winter survival can vary depending on your climate, weather conditions, and the protection provided.
